Charlestown belongs to the City of Lake Macquarie, and we're over the line in the City of Newcastle, in The Junction village. As a hairdresser Charlestown drives ten minutes to, we mostly see people from there for the longer colour and extensions work.

Kenrick Street, The Junction10 minutes from Charlestown by car

Over the council line and ten minutes up the road, for colour worth one longer trip instead of several short ones.

Charlestown is the largest suburb in the City of Lake Macquarie, and the largest in the Greater Newcastle area too. Its shops line the Pacific Highway, Charlestown Square sits just off it on Pearson Street, and The Forum on the highway holds offices and a cinema. People driving in from Charlestown make the 7.5 km count: they tend to book longer appointments, spaced further apart, and want the whole plan and price settled before they set out.

Extension move-ups on a Saturday morning
Tape extensions need moving up every 6 to 8 weeks, from $180, and Charlestown clients often pair that trip with a Saturday morning in The Junction.
Grey blending that spaces out the drive
Soft blending through grey grows out without a hard line, so the trip in from Lake Macquarie happens every few months instead of every four weeks.
Thursday finishes for Pacific Highway offices
People working at The Forum and along the highway can drive straight in after work, because we're open until 8pm on Thursdays.

A hairdresser Charlestown drives ten minutes for

Ten minutes in the car is short enough to make regularly and long enough that people plan it. When Charlestown clients choose a hairdresser in The Junction, it is usually for the bigger work: extensions, grey blending or a full colour, rather than a quick fringe trim. If you're weighing a hair salon Charlestown has on its doorstep against one in Newcastle, the reason to make the drive is a particular stylist, or a longer colour planned over several visits.

What the drive in is for

Tape hair extensions begin with a free consult and colour match. With move-ups due every 6 to 8 weeks, a Charlestown client wearing extensions makes the trip about every two months regardless.

Grey blending comes next. Fine lights through the grey soften the regrowth, so there's no hard root line pulling you back in after four weeks.

Your first colour with us needs a five-minute skin test 48 hours or more beforehand. Every price, by level, is on the services page.

Questions from Charlestown

Is Charlestown part of Newcastle?

Not as a council area. Charlestown is in the City of Lake Macquarie, while The Junction, where we are, is in the City of Newcastle. Both are part of Greater Newcastle, and the drive between them is about ten minutes.

How far is Marram Hair from Charlestown?

7.5 km by road, about ten minutes by car. We're open Tuesday to Saturday, and until 8pm on Thursday.

How much do hair extensions cost?

Tape extensions start at $650, hair and fitting together, at any stylist level, after a free consult and colour match. Move-ups run from $180 every 6 to 8 weeks.

How long does grey blending take?

Allow about two and a half hours. It's from $150, $180 or $210 rising with the stylist's level, and because it grows out softly it can usually go a few months between visits.

Can I have hair colour if I've reacted to dye before?

Talk to us first. Most allergic reactions to hair dye involve PPD (para-phenylenediamine) and dyes related to it. For every new colour client we follow the manufacturers' instruction: a skin test 48 hours or more before colouring. Any severe reaction, call 000.

Can I fit a cut in on a Saturday?

Saturday runs from 8am to 3pm. A cut and blow-dry takes an hour, so with an early time you can be back in Charlestown well before lunch.
