Bar Beach is our nearest neighbour, so the blow-dry you leave with is still the blow-dry you get home with.
Bar Beach takes its name from a rock pool once called The Bar, and the northern stretch of sand is the one locals call Susan Gilmore Beach, after an American clipper wrecked there in 1884. Between the beach, the Reid Park tennis courts and the Empire Park bowling green, a lot of Bar Beach hair spends the week tied up, salted or under a cap. We mostly see it in short visits: a toner between colours, a blow-dry before dinner, a trim after a swim.
Bar Beach and The Junction share a border. That makes Marram a hair salon Bar Beach clients reach on foot more often than not, and it changes what they book: shorter, more frequent visits, fitted around a swim or tennis at Reid Park.
Sea water and sun take toner out of lightened hair faster than anything else in an ordinary week. So instead of a full colour every couple of months, many Bar Beach clients keep one balayage going for four or five months and drop in for a toner at the halfway point. Jess, a senior stylist, looks after most of that blonde.
Most bookings are blow-dries, toners and cuts. A cut with a blow-dry takes an hour and costs $75 at graduate level, $95 at senior or $120 at director. Long hair that has spent a summer in the surf usually does better with a bond repair added to the colour: 30 minutes, and $45, $50 or $60 depending on the stylist. Every price is on the price list.
The walk is short enough to do in thongs. Merewether, Cooks Hill and The Hill have pages of their own, the rest are on the hair salon Newcastle page, and you can send a booking request any time.

Balayage, toner included, is from $260 at graduate level, $310 at senior and $370 at director, about three hours. Length and thickness move the price, and we confirm it before mixing.
Yes, if it's your first colour with us: a five-minute test on the skin, two days or more before your appointment, as the dye manufacturers direct.

Tuesday to Saturday, late on Thursday. A consultation is free, and every price is set before anything is mixed.
